Govt Flags Four Institutions Offering Nursing Courses Illegally

The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) has blacklisted several institutions allegedly offering nursing courses without their approval.

In a statement issued on September 18, the Council listed four institutions which it notes are offering the said courses.

The four institutions mentioned were the Northlands International Medical Training College, Tabaka School of Health Sciences in Mosocho, Topmax Training College and the Global Medical Training College (GMTC).

NCK’s warning to institutions not mandated to offer nursing courses

The Council reminded the public that it is the only authority in Kenya mandated to approve nursing and midwifery training programs and institutions.

“Any course offered without Nursing Council of Kenya’s (NCK) approval is not recognized and does not meet the required standards of training and professional practice,” part of the statement read.

The authority also warned that those found culpable of engaging in the illegal practice will face action.

Consequences of not being approved by NCK

“The Council wishes to draw your attention to Section 21 of the Nurses and Midwives Act CAP 257 Laws of Kenya, which stipulates that any person conducting nursing training courses without Council approval, upon conviction, is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand shillings, imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or both, “the statement read.

The council further urged prospective students and their guardians to verify the accreditation status of any institution before enrolling in any nursing or midwifery program.
