The Social Health Authority (SHA) has announced the first facility in Kenya to receive its Green Label Service Charter, an initiative that ensures beneficiaries can access a wide range of primary healthcare services entirely free of charge.
Funded under the Government’s Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF), the Green Label Facility initiative guarantees that eligible patients can walk into the facility, receive the services they need, and leave without paying any fees.
The charter clearly outlines all covered services, providing transparency and assurance to beneficiaries.
Speaking during the unveiling of Bomet Health Centre as the first facility to receive the charter on Wednesday, January 21, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the initiative aims to make primary healthcare more accessible and to improve the quality and delivery of essential services.
“Bomet Health Centre is now a Green Label Facility. Patients can walk in, receive treatment, and walk out without paying. This is fully funded under the Primary Healthcare Fund, a government initiative to ensure equitable healthcare access for all Kenyans,” SHA said.

According to SHA, Bomet Health Centre marks the beginning of a nationwide rollout of the Green Label Service Charter.
Other facilities across Kenya are expected to adopt the program in the coming months, expanding access to fully funded primary healthcare for thousands of Kenyans.
Services that SHA beneficiaries will access for free
The services covered under the Green Label Facility include consultation, diagnosis and treatment, laboratory tests, radiology services such as ultrasounds, medicines including painkillers, antibiotics, malaria and blood pressure drugs, and disease screening for conditions such as diabetes, HIV, cancer, and mental health issues.
Other free services include minor surgical procedures performed under local anaesthesia, antenatal and postnatal care, family planning services such as pills, injections, implants, and condoms, and immunization against polio, measles, BCG, tetanus, and other vaccines.

HIV and STI services, counselling, ARVs, and referrals for specialized care are also provided free of charge.
