The County Government of Kiambu on August 8 announced job opportunities for qualified medical specialists under its Department of Health Services.
The positions were advertised by the County Public Service Board (CPSB), a body mandated to oversee human resource functions in the county government.
In a public notice, the board stated that the advertised roles fall under Job Group CPSB 04 (JG ‘Q’) and will be offered on contract terms.
“Pursuant to the provision of the County Government Act No.17 of 2012 Section 45 (1), the County Public Service Board wishes to recruit Medical Specialists I Job Group ‘Q’,” read part of the notice.
The move is aimed at strengthening the delivery of specialised health services in various county health facilities.
Announced job vacancies in Kiambu County and responsibilities
According to the notice, the county is seeking professionals in key areas including Obstetrics and Gynaecology (15), General Surgery (15), Psychiatry (15), Paediatric Dentistry (8), Radiology (8), Maxillofacial Surgery (8), and Internal Medicine/physician (8).
The CPSB outlined several duties and responsibilities for the roles.
These include general diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients, offering specialised clinical care, conducting medical surgeries, and undertaking forensic and medico-legal services.
Successful candidates will also be required to coordinate disease surveillance, lead health education and promotion efforts, implement health projects, and conduct medical research.
Requirements for Appointment
The applicants for the advertised jobs are required to possess the following qualifications:
Served in the grade of Assistant Director, Medical Services/Medical Specialist II in the public or private sector or its equivalent for a minimum period of three (3) years.

- A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B. Ch B.) degree from an institution recognised by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- A Master of Medicine degree in any of the following disciplines: – General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Internal Medicine, Paediatric Dentistry, Maxillofacial Surgery from an institution recognised by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- A Certificate of Registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- A practising license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
- A Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognised institution will be an added advantage.
- A certificate in computer application skills will be an added advantage
