Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has said presidential results are unlikely to be announced today.
Speaking to journalists at Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati said that the commission will not start tallying until they receive all the forms 34A and 34B from the polling stations and constituency tallying centres respectively.
“We are not going through the tallying process until we start receiving the original images of Form 34A and 34B from our returning officers at the national tallying centre,” Chebukati said.
“The law requires IEBC to declare the president-elect within seven days, the commission shall endeavour to conclude this exercise at the earliest time possible,” he added.
As of Wednesday 3:00 pm, 45,266 of 46,229 form 34A’s had been uploaded on the IEBC’s portal while six out of 291 forms 34B had been uploaded.
He however said that results being streamed by media houses were from forms 34A’s uploaded on the commission’s website.
Constituency returning officers are expected to physically present the form 34A’s to Chebukati at Bomas
The presidential results are showing a tight contest between UDA candidate William Ruto and Azimio candidate Raila Odinga.
Chebukati insisted that results being announced at the polling station are final
