Chris Obure is a Kenyan politician, and the former Kisii County senator.
Obure was born on 29 September 1943 in Boigesa Village, Bobasi (former South Kavirondo District), Kisii County.
He was the first senator of Kisii County, serving under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Chris Obure began his early education at Kereri Primary School in Bobasi, Kisii County.
He proceeded to Kamagambo SDA Secondary School before advancing to Kisii High School, where he completed his A-levels under the London GCE system in just one year instead of the usual two.
In 1965, Obure joined the University of Nairobi and earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
While at the university, he was active in student leadership, serving as Vice President and Minister for Campus Affairs in the student government.
Alongside his undergraduate studies, he completed a professional course with the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators (CISCA) in the UK.
Chris Obure’s career life
Chris Obure began his professional journey in 1968 as the Assistant Company Secretary at East African Bata Shoe Company, rising to the position of Company Secretary by 1970.
He later served in senior roles at Kenya Breweries Limited, including Company Secretary from 1974 to 1976 and Group Company Secretary from 1977 to 1983.
Between 1974 and 1978, he also served as Company Secretary of the Kenya Football League.
Obure transitioned into politics in the early 1990s.
Political career
He was elected Member of Parliament for Bobasi in 1993 and served multiple terms.
Chris Obure held various ministerial positions, including Minister for Industrialisation from 1999 to 2001.
He joined the Finance ministry from 2001 to 2002 and the Public Works from 2008 to 2013.
From 2008 to 2013, he also represented Bobasi Constituency as a member of Parliament.
Additionally, from March 2013, Obure served as the Senator for Kisii County and was a member of the Orange Democratic Movement and the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy.
