Fatuma Dullo Adan is a Kenyan politician and lawyer currently serving her third term as the elected Senator for Isiolo County.
She was first nominated as a Senator in 2013 and later elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2022, making her the first woman to be elected consecutively as Isiolo County’s senator.
She served as the Deputy Majority Leader in the Senate during the 12th Parliament and currently chairs the Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations.
Educational Background of Fatuma Dullo
Fatuma Adan Dullo completed paramilitary training at the Administration Police Training College in Embakasi, earning certification in Administrative Officer training in 1989 and Paramilitary Administration in 1993.
She later studied law at the University of Nairobi, earning her LL.B. in 2003, followed by a Post-Graduate Diploma in Law at the Kenya School of Law (completed in 2005).
Dullo was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court in 2006 and subsequently earned a Master of Laws (Governance) degree from the University of Nairobi in 2011.
Career Background
Shortly after her paramilitary training, Fatuma Dullo became one of the youngest serving District Officers posted to Lamu in 1989 and transferred to Embu in 1990, before progressing to Administrative Officer by 1994.
She then joined the Ministry of Health as Assistant Secretary/Legal Counsel, serving from 1995 to 2006.
In 2006–2007, she served as a Legal Advisor with UNDP (attached to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities) and was appointed Commissioner at the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KNCHR) from 2007 to 2012.
Fatuma Dullo entered elective politics in 2013 as a nominated Senator, appointed under the URP banner.
In 2017, she became the elected Senator for Isiolo County, making history as the first woman to serve in that capacity.
During her tenure, she served as Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate, and in 2022 was re-elected for a third term and selected as the Minority Whip.
Dullo currently chairs the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations, a critical national oversight role she assumed by early 2025.
