Gideon Mung’aro is a Kenyan politician currently serving as the governor of Kilifi County since August 2022.
He was born on 18th September 1966 in Kilifi County.
Mung’aro served as the Member of Parliament for Kilifi North Constituency from 2013 to 2017.
He is affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He also studied County Governance at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Career
Mung’aro’s leadership began as a youth coordinator for KANU campaigns in the coastal region in the late 1990s.
He then served as a councillor and later as Mayor of Malindi in the early 2000s. Leveraging his grassroots engagement and local leadership, he contested and won the Malindi Constituency parliamentary seat.
Following the reorganisation, he transitioned to represent the newly established Kilifi North Constituency in the National Assembly from 2013 to 2017.

In 2017, after losing a gubernatorial bid to Amason Kingi, Mung’aro was appointed Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) for Lands in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
During his tenure, he oversaw the distribution of more than 39,000 title deeds, marking significant progress in land regularisation for landless residents.
He contested again and was elected Governor of Kilifi County in August 2022, succeeding Amason Kingi.
