Paul Kimani Wamatangi is the fourth and current Governor of Kiambu County in Kenya.
He was elected in 2022 after serving as Kiambu Senator for two consecutive terms from 2013 to 2022.
Governor Wamatangi is well-known for his community development work through the Wamatangi Foundation, which he founded in 2006.
The foundation notably distributed over 100,000 water tanks to vulnerable people and has supported youth empowerment programs, including computer literacy and driving courses.
Educational Background of Kimani Wamatangi
Kimani Wamatangi began his formal education at Kibiku Primary School (1972–78), followed by Nyandarua High School (1978–82).
He earned a Diploma from Tred. P. College (1983–84) and pursued further studies at Bombay University (now University of Mumbai) from 1980 to 1989.
He later completed a degree in Leadership and Management at St Paul’s University (2012–13).
He also holds a master’s in business administration and a Diploma in Leadership and Corporate Governance, and in 2019 received an Honorary Doctorate in Humanity for his community service through the Wamatangi Foundation.
Career Life
Before joining politics, Wamatangi built a diverse business portfolio.
He served as Managing Director of Auto Bass Limited (2004–12), CEO of King Group Limited (2010–12), and held director roles at Total Assurance, Kings Construction, Apex Security, and Lub Plus Trading between 2008 and 2012.
He also played an active role in business associations as a founding member and former vice-chair of the Auto-Bazaar Association of Kenya (AAK).

Wamatangi joined elective politics in 2013, winning a seat as Senator for Kiambu County, and was appointed Senate Majority Whip in 2021.
He chaired the Senate Transport and Infrastructure Committee and contributed to the enactment of the landmark “Assumption of Office of Governor” bill, now law.
In August 2022, he was elected as the Governor of Kiambu County under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) banner.
