Jonathan Lati Leleliit is the current Governor of Samburu County, serving his first five-year term after being elected on August 9, 2022.
Before becoming governor, he served as a Member of Parliament for Samburu West Constituency from 2013 to 2017.

He later returned to Kenya, where between 2018 and 2021 he served as Chairman of the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI).
Governor Lati began his political career as the Member of Parliament for Samburu West, serving from March 2013 to July 2017.

During this period, he was a member of the parliamentary Departmental Committee on Finance, Budget, and Appropriation, and championed the establishment of over ten-day secondary schools in the constituency.
In August 2022, Governor Lati was elected the second Governor of Samburu County, representing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
He succeeded the long-serving Governor Moses Lenolkulal.
