Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was honoured with three major international accolades during a high-profile ceremony at the historic House of Lords in the British Parliament on September 26.
Mike Sonko received a Leadership Excellence Award jointly conferred by the United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) and the Jewel Howard Taylor Leadership Program, led by Liberia’s former Vice President.
He was also awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership and Governance from the American University of Peace and Governance, USA, recognizing his contributions to sustainable humanitarian work, social initiatives, and human capital development.
“Yesterday, together with other nominated leaders globally, I got the UNIPGC Honours at the British Parliament,” Mike Sonko confirmed in his statement.

The event was organised by the UK Chapter of the UNIPGC Council, where Sonko also served as a keynote speaker and award recipient.
Mike Sonko, who expressed gratitude for the recognition, joined fellow awardees in pledging to advance sustainable peace and development.
“See how God is placing me on podiums that elevate me and favor me despite being out of office,” Sonko remarked.
The awards were presented at the 3rd UNIPGC Global Leadership Investment Summit and Peace Award (GLISPA), organised by the UNIPGC UK Chapter in collaboration with the Foreign Investment Network (FIN) UK, Euroknowledge, and Trailblazer Queen USA.

Besides Kenyan Mike Sonko, other honourees included Livinis Tsar Adzer, Victor Alonge, Chief Mrs Bolaji Juliet Akinmulero, Dr Carlos Sousa, Zelig Ifeanyi Okonmah, Jaruwan Vantana, Morenike Oluwaseun, Dr Bastin Titus Anthony Raj, and Dr Michael Kanthakaran.
The ceremony was anchored by Dr Graziella Thake, UNIPGC Australia Secretary General, with the investiture officiated by Barr. Williams Chima of the UNIPGC Advisory Council on Human Rights and Judicial Cooperation.

UNIPGC Global President Amb. Dr Jonathan Ojadah urged recipients to serve as peace ambassadors and exemplary leaders worldwide.
Kevin Uguru, also a German MP and Secretary General of UNIPGC Europe, announced that the next edition of the summit will be held in Germany around May or June 2026.
