Patrick Barasa is the current Member of Parliament representing the Cherangany Constituency in Trans-Nzoia County.
He was first elected to Parliament in August 2022 on a Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) ticket under the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
This is his first term in the National Assembly, where he has focused on legislative oversight and constituency development, particularly in infrastructure, education, health, and local security.
Since assuming office, he has continued to push for the improvement of service delivery in Cherangany by engaging government departments and advocating increased funding to critical sectors.
Educational Background of Patrick Barasa
Patrick Barasa began his education at Nzoia Centre Primary School, where he completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1985.
Afterwards, he proceeded to Kitale Day Secondary School between 1986 and 1989, where he earned his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
He later enrolled at the University of Nairobi, earning a Certificate in Public Relations between 2000 and 2002.
Patrick further pursued a Diploma in Public Relations at the same university from 2002 to 2004.
To advance his academic qualifications, Barasa joined Mount Kenya University between 2014 and 2017 and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management degree.
In 2021, he began a master’s programme in Public Administration at the same institution, which he is currently undertaking.
Career life
Before venturing into elective politics, Barasa served in the National Police Service, specifically within the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
He worked as a Detective between 1992 and 2005, during which time he also served as a Court Prosecutor and an Intelligence and Records Officer.
From 2009 to 2012, he was in charge of Investigations.
Between 2014 and 2017, he was appointed Chief Security Officer in the Trans-Nzoia County Government.
He later served as Chief of Staff from 2017 until 2022. His experience in security, public administration, and crisis management positioned him well for national leadership.
Following his election in 2022, he began serving in Parliament, representing the interests of Cherangany residents.
