Laura Amina Mnyazi is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament for Malindi Constituency under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
Early life and education
Amina Laura Mnyazi began her education in 1988 at Silversand Academy in Malindi, where she completed her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1995.
In 1996, she joined Tawheed Muslim Girls Secondary School, where she pursued her secondary studies until 1999, when she sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
In 2005, she travelled to Australia to further her education and enrolled at the Perth Institute of Business and Technology, graduating in 2006 with a Diploma in Business Management.
She immediately advanced her studies at Edith Cowan University in Perth, where between 2006 and 2008 she pursued and attained a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management.
After returning to Kenya, she enrolled at Kenyatta University in 2014 for postgraduate studies, where she completed her coursework and research in 2016, graduating with a Master of Arts in Political Science.
Career
Professional career
In 2006, while still pursuing her studies, Lydia Haika worked as a Manager at Fatuma House Administration, a role she held until 2008.
In 2009, she joined Rosewood Investment as a Marketing Manager, where she worked until 2011, gaining valuable experience in business operations and client relations.
Later in 2011, Mnyazi transitioned into the financial sector when she was appointed to the Treasury Department at Chase Bank’s Malindi Branch, where she served until 2013.
Her role in banking exposed her to corporate finance, treasury operations, and client service in a dynamic and highly regulated environment.
Her engagement with constituency-level development began in 2013, when she became Secretary of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Committee in Malindi, a position she held until 2016.
During the same period, she was appointed Chairperson of Finance at the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), Malindi region, where she oversaw financial planning and management of local road infrastructure projects between 2013 and 2016.

Alongside these responsibilities, Mnyazi also served as Operations Manager at Come and Solve Company Limited, a role she assumed in 2010 and has continued to hold, providing management oversight and operational leadership within the private sector.
Political career
Amina Laura Mnyazi made her first entry into competitive politics in 2017, when she contested for the Malindi Constituency parliamentary seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
Despite running a spirited campaign, she lost to the incumbent, Aisha Jumwa, but the election introduced her to the national political stage and strengthened her resolve to remain engaged in public affairs.
Between 2017 and 2022, Mnyazi remained active in ODM politics at the grassroots level in Kilifi County.
She focused on party mobilisation, community engagement, and advocacy on development issues affecting Malindi, particularly education, youth empowerment, and infrastructure.
Her persistence paid off in the 2022 General Election, when she again contested the Malindi parliamentary seat under the ODM banner.
In the election held on 9 August 2022, she defeated seven male contenders to clinch the seat, succeeding Aisha Jumwa, who had shifted to county politics.
Mnyazi was officially sworn in on 16 August 2022, beginning her first term in the Thirteenth Parliament of Kenya.
In Parliament, she was appointed to the Departmental Committee on Blue Economy and Irrigation, where she has been involved in oversight and legislation related to maritime resources, water management, and irrigation projects.

As a Member of Parliament, she has spearheaded several development initiatives, including the electrification of Mshongoleni and Kaoyeni villages in August 2024 under the Last Mile Connectivity Project, aimed at improving access to power in rural areas.
