Leah Sopiato Sankaire is a Kenyan politician and the serving Women Representative for Kajiado County under the UDA party.
Early life and education
Leah Sopiato began her education at Olepolos, where she completed her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1993.
She then attended Moi Girls Isinya from 1994 to 1997, successfully obtaining her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
Leah Sopiato then enrolled at the Kenya Institute of Social Work as a Community Development officer and later obtained her Computer Packages certificate from the Africana College of Technology in 2004.
Her academic journey continued at the University of Nairobi, where she earned a Certificate in Project Planning and Management in 2015, followed by a Diploma in the same field in 2016, and finally a Bachelor’s Degree in Project Planning and Management in 2021.

Professional career
Leah Sopiato began her career as an Online Consultant in 2006 in Family Mediation & Conciliation, offering digital support for conflict resolution and mediation efforts till 2007.
She then went on in 2008 to become the Founder and Director of the Maasai Women Against Violence Development Organization, championing peace, empowerment, and support for Maasai women facing violence, a position she held on till 2012.
Political career
Leah entered politics in 2013 when she was nominated to serve in the Kajiado County Assembly.

During her five-year term, she was a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committee and the Finance and Economic Committee, while also chairing the Public Investments and Accounts Committee.
In 2017, following the general elections, she was appointed Chief of Staff in the County Government of Kajiado, a position she held for one year.
Her effectiveness in administration led to her elevation in 2018 as Chief of Protocol, a role she retained until 2022.
In this capacity, she was tasked with planning official events, managing state functions at the county level, and representing the executive office in public forums.
Running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, Leah contested and won the seat of Women Representative for Kajiado County in the 2022 general elections.
Since taking office, she has prioritized education, women’s economic empowerment, and infrastructure support.
A notable example came in July 2024, when she launched a water and solar power project at Kimuka PCEA Girls Secondary School.
She also disbursed bursaries to students and funds to women’s groups, initiatives that mirrored her commitment to grassroots development.
