Wanjiku Muhia is a Kenyan Politician and the current Member of Parliament for Kipipiri Constituency in Nyandarua County.
Early life and education
Born and raised in Nyandarua County, Muhia experienced a modest upbringing in a rural setting where access to basic resources, including education, was not always guaranteed.
At one point, her secondary education seemed uncertain due to financial constraints. However, her life took a remarkable turn when Dr. Geoffrey Griffin, the founder of Starehe Boys’ Centre, intervened and sponsored her studies at Nakuru High School.
This opportunity gave her the foundation to pursue her dreams and later transition into both the corporate and political worlds.
In 1998, she began her formal education at Kamahia Primary School, where she completed her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2001.
In 2002, Muhia proceeded to join Nakuru High School, where she completed her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
This phase of her life was made possible through sponsorship, a turning point that enabled her to continue her education against all odds.
Undeterred, Wanjiku enrolled at the University of Nairobi to pursue a Diploma in Human Resource Management, successfully graduating in 2009.
Muhia furthered her studies at Kenya Methodist University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration between 2012 and 2015.
Determined to gain global exposure, she pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom, broadening her perspective on management and international relations.
In 2016, she enrolled at the Harvard Kennedy School, USA, where she undertook an executive program titled “Leaders in Development: Managing Change in a Dynamic World”.
Career
Before transitioning into public office, Hon. Wanjiku Muhia honed her leadership and administrative expertise in roles spanning agribusiness and banking.
Her career began in the floriculture sector. At Florensis Kenya Ltd, a major flower propagation and supply company based in Naivasha, Muhia held the position of Human Resource and Administration Manager from 1998 to 2003.
In this role, she spearheaded employee welfare improvements, notably establishing a daycare centre for breastfeeding mothers, and introducing a Sacco scheme and medical cover, initiatives aimed at enhancing worker welfare and job satisfaction.
In 2006, Muhia transitioned into the financial services sector, joining Equity Bank as a Regional Customer Service Manager.

Political career

During her first term in the 11th Parliament (2013–2017), Muhia quickly established herself as a hardworking legislator.
She was appointed the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Implementation, where she oversaw the execution of laws, policies, and resolutions passed by the House.
In the 2017 General Elections, Muhia vied for re-election as Nyandarua Woman Representative but was defeated.
However, her experience and competence earned her nomination to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), where she served from 2017 to 2022.
At EALA, she worked on legislation and policies geared towards strengthening the East African Community (EAC) integration agenda, particularly in trade, security, and cross-border relations.
In the 2022 General Elections, Muhia made a strong comeback, this time successfully contesting for the Kipipiri Constituency parliamentary seat under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
