Career Background
Kituyi has served as a Kenyan politician before in 2013 he became Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
He stepped down in 2022, to eye on a presidential position.
From 1992-2007, he served as a member of parliament for the Kimilili constituency in Western Kenya.
Additionally, from 2002-2007 he was the minister for Trade and Industry. He played a role in trade diplomacy in the East African region.
In 2010, he worked as the Executive Director at the Kenya Institute of Governance in Nairobi.
Kituyi was a Research Fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington from 2009-2010.
Moreover, in his early years, he was the Director of the African Centre for Technology Studies from 1990-1991 in Nairobi as a Programme Officer at the Norwegian Agency for International Development.

Mukhisa is married to Dr Ling Mukhisa Kituyi and together they have four children. His wife is Norwegian.

His net worth has not been disclosed to the public. However, he faced a 35 million accumulated debt that he owed fellow politician Patrick Musimba.
