Tenwek Boys High School Principal Simon Mutali Chesebe has captured the admiration of many Kenyans after taking part in a school play.
Stepping out of the conventional principal role, Chesebe took on the watchman’s role in the school play staged by his students.
His choice to feature in the students’ production has been widely praised online, with many applauding him for embracing young talent, supporting the arts, and leading by example.
Chesebe’s exceptional oratory skills were on full display in 2021, when he addressed his students to announce their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results in a video shared on social media.
Speaking fluently in Swahili, he conveyed both clarity and passion.
His enthusiasm was evident in his expressions, and the confidence with which he delivered his message kept the students fully engaged, hanging on every word.

Under the stewardship of Principal Simon, Tenwek Boys High School has evolved from a county-level institution into a national academic giant.
He has overseen the development of major infrastructure projects, enhancing the school’s facilities.
Modern classrooms have been built to foster conducive learning environments, while a state-of-the-art administration block now stands as a symbol of structure, excellence, and high standards.
The school is currently constructing the largest multipurpose hall complex in Bomet County, a landmark project that will host major events, examinations, and academic functions.
Tenwek is also constructing one of the finest basketball courts in Kenya
The school has been selected to mentor the soon-to-be-constructed Bomet High School, a prestigious recognition that speaks volumes about Chesebe’s general leadership.

About Tenwek Boys High School
Tenwek Boys High School is a national boys’ secondary school located in Bomet County. The learning institution was started in 1945 by the World Gospel missionaries as an intermediate school and is currently under the sponsorship of the African Gospel Church (AGC).
The school was converted to a secondary school and admitted its first boys in 1961, with E. Gilger as the first principal, who headed the school until 1968.Â
Among notable Tenwek Boys alumni who attended the school when it was intermediate are the late Samwel Cheruiyot Langat (Former Kenya Literature Bureau Director).

Others include the late Dr. Bishop Rono (Bishop AGC Kenya), the late Kipkalya Kones (former Cabinet Minister), the late Ambassador John Koech, former Cabinet Minister Frankline Bett, and State House Deputy Chief of Staff, former Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok.
Tenwek Boys has developed into a boarding school, hosting over 1,700 male students and maintaining a strong culture of good performance in national exams.
The learning institution was elevated to national school status due to its growth in both physical and academic areas.
In the 2025 KCSE results, 15 students scored an A, while 92 attained an A-. A total of 145 students earned a B+, 133 secured a B, and 130 achieved a B-. In addition, 91 students scored a C+, 39 a C-, and 2 a D+.
Out of 647 candidates, 515 qualified for direct university entry, representing a transition rate of 80%.
