Educational Background of Tom Ojienda
Tom Ojienda earned his Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) from Machakos School between 1981 and 1985.
He then obtained his Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) at the same school in 1987.
Ojienda studied law at the University of Nairobi, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree in 1992. He later attended the Kenya School of Law, where he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Law (ATP).
He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from King’s College London (1993-1994) and a Diploma in French from Alliance Française de Paris (1992), and later completed a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) from the University of South Africa (2006-2010).

Tom Ojienda has blended academic, legal practice, consultancy, and political roles over his career.
He began as a lecturer / senior lecturer at Moi University, School of Law from 1997 through to 2009, then became Associate Professor of Public Law there (2010-2022).
His legal practice includes being Managing Partner at his own firm, Prof. Tom Ojienda & Associates, since about 2012.
He has served on several high-level boards and tribunals: Chairman of the Land Acquisition Compensation Tribunal (2008-2012), a member of the National Environment Tribunal, and commissioner roles, including Truth, Justice & Reconciliation Commission (2009-2013), Judicial Service Commission (2014-2019).
Additionally, he has been President and Vice President of various lawyers’ professional bodies such as the Law Society of Kenya, East Africa Law Society, and Pan African Lawyers Union.
In August 2022, he was elected Senator for Kisumu County.
