Renowned Kenyan actress and content creator Catherine Kamau alias Kate Actress has been forced to apologize after her remarks towards a social media user sparked uproar on social media.
In a statement on June 19, the actress acknowledged her fault while noting that she should have been more respectful.
“I want to sincerely apologize for the insensitive comment I made on my Instagram page,” she wrote on her Instagram account.
“After many reflections, I realize that it was a reflex response to the false allegations about my recent trip to the US being government-sponsored. I reiterate that it wasn’t. However, I do acknowledge that I should have responded in a more respectful way. I remain committed to using my platform to advocate for all our fundamental rights as a people and will continue to voice my support for the betterment of our country.”
Kate’s apology came moments after she uploaded a status post on her social media declaring her stance on the Finance Bill.
She captioned the story while taking a jab at the government for not sponsoring her United States trip in May 2024 despite US Embassy sending her an invite.
“I said your government doesn’t have money to sponsor me to go to the US, and it is true. Let’s meet on THURSADAY! #REJECTFINANCEBILL,” she said.

In turn, she responded and said, “You don’t have money please”.
The response then sparked reactions on social media with some calling her out while others defended her stance on the Finance Bill 2024.

Kate Actress Friends Defend Her
While a section of Kenyans bashed Kate for her remarks, some of her friends and fellow content creators came out to defend her.
Fellow actress Izareeh called the backlash unfair, stating that Kate has been at the forefront in everything concerning the wellbeing of Kenyans.
“Guys, I stand with @kateactress, honestly, she was not funded by the govt. She has been vocal about this finance bill since day one and everything about the wellbeing of Kenyans because she is one of us. This is unfair!” Izareeh said.
Content creator, Jackie Matubia also weighed in and pointed out that Kate was clear on who invited her and who paid for her trip to the US from the get-go.
“Guys @kateactress said that said the government doesn’t have money to sponsor her …She wrote in black and white the US embassy invited her and she sponsored herself…. Honestly Kenyans…,” Jackie pointed out.
