Fortune Kangai popularly known as Young Fortune is a 10-year-old gospel music artist and presenter at Royal media services.
Kangai hosts a children’s show on Citizen TV known as Citizen Junior which airs on the weekends, every Saturday from 9am to 10 am.
The budding star gained attention after her performance at the Kenya Music Festival State gala held in Nakuru.
Fortune, then a grade five student caught the attention of President William Ruto through her performance at the Kenya Music Festival State gala held in Nakuru in 2023.
At the gala, she performed one of her songs known as ‘Yesu ni Bazu’, a performance that saw the Head of State rise to his feet to dance.
After the performance, President Ruto declared that the government would establish music studios in each county to nurture talents that would help the likes of Young Fortune realize their dreams of becoming great musicians.
Young Fortune Performs for Ruto
According to her teacher Nickson Sitati, the remarkable performance was the result of significant sacrifice and dedicated practice.
“It was not easy, even coming to perform here at the Gala Music Festivals it was a hard task but through the training and the guidance of God we were able to come here,” Nickson said.
Fortune wowed the country’s top dignitaries, led by President William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and the First Lady Rachel Ruto.
Musical Journey
In a past interview, Fortune shared that she began singing at the age of three and was composing her own songs by the time she was six.
“You see when I was at the age of three, I was able to stand in front of the class and maybe sing ‘Baby Jesus’ and all those songs, and I really felt something pushing me… when I was the age of six, so I went to my parents to tell them to help me make my own songs and they were like it’s Okay,” shared Fortune.
Kangai describes herself as a daughter of God and is signed under the record label 7heaven Music owned by renowned gospel musician Guardian Angel.
In a previous interview, Fortune mentioned that as a student, she primarily finds time to record music on weekends and during school holidays.
