Miss Universe Kenya 2024 Irene Ng’endo Mukii has resigned.
In a statement shared on Friday, Irene said she decided to resign after careful consideration.
“After careful consideration I have decided to send in my termination notice to the Miss Universe Kenya Organisation,” read the statement in part.
While affirming her commitment to community service, she hinted at the reason behind her resignation, saying she will only commit to a course that aligns with her values.
Reason behind resignation
“I stay committed to the impact agenda of community service through my platform, Inspirene Revolution, towards my generation and can therefor only align with environments with values and work ethic that can help in achieving the agenda,” read another part of the statement.

She finished by thanking everyone who has been supportive and said that going forward she will focus on her brand and empowering marginalized communities.
“The focus remains to be transformational leadership to empower undeserved and marginalized communities. I am excited for what’s ahead for Inspirene revolution. Let us continue working together for the good of our people,” ended the statement.
The statement comes after the backlash Irene faced following her performance at the Miss Universe Pageant.
Irene faces backlash from netizens
Addressing the feedback, Mukii stated that she loved Kenyan culture and explained the significance behind one of her outfits that sparked controversy.

Irene Mukii represented Kenya at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant that was held in Arena CDMX in Mexico City, on November 16, 2024.
Before proceeding to the global stage, Irene ranked among the top seven contestants from Africa and Oceania region.
