After a decade in the limelight, celebrated TV personality Sharon Momanyi has bid farewell to KTN.
Momanyi, who joined TV in 2013 as an intern, rose to become a Features Editor in 2018, just days after winning the Media Council of Kenya’s Annual Journalism Excellence Award (AJEA) – Journalist of the Year, 2018 award. During her tenure, Momanyi undoubtedly left a mark on the media world, telling stories that changed people’s lives and making a difference in the community.
In a nostalgic tweet, she expressed gratitude for the trust of those who shared their stories with her and the platform to make a difference, writing, “2nd April,2013: Young intern joins KTN newsroom with lofty ambitions of telling stories that change people’s lives. 2nd April 2023: Leaves with nothing but gratitude for the trust of those that have shared their stories with me & a platform to make a difference. Momanyi joins the list of prominent TV personalities who have left the screen recently. Abubakar Abdullahi, the former CEO of TV47, is another media star who recently announced his departure from the media space. Abdullahi started as Chief Editor before transitioning into the CEO role after the exit of his predecessor Eugene Anangwe.
In a statement, Abdullahi expressed appreciation for the support he received during his tenure and the progress TV47 has made in the competitive media landscape.
He wrote, “After four flowery years, I am leaving TV47 to pursue other interests. Thank you all for the support you offered me during my tenure first as Chief Editor and subsequently as the Chief Executive Officer. To my wonderful colleagues, this is my message to you. It has been a lifetime honour and privilege to serve as your chief Editor and subsequently as your Chief Executive officer for the last four years. When I took over the leadership of the company we deeply love, I made a commitment that we will fight for our spot in Kenya’s competitive media landscape. I am proud that we have made tremendous progress together. We were ranked the fastest-growing TV in Kenya and our numbers continue to grow.”
As these media stars depart from our screens, fans and colleagues alike are left to wonder what exciting ventures they’ll pursue next. Despite their departures, their impact on the media world will undoubtedly continue to be felt for years.
