Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has announced free entry for Kenyans to all national parks on Tuesday, December 12 during the Jamhuri Day celebrations.
In a statement, CS Mutua said the government made the decision to waive entry fees in line with the upcoming 60th anniversary of Kenya’s independence.
“In commemorating our 60th year of independence, the Government proudly announces free entry for Kenyan citizens to all national parks and museums on Jamhuri Day, December 12, 2023,” the CS announced.
“This initiative aligns with our collective pride in being Kenyan and our desire for everyone to relish the gifts bestowed upon us by nature.”
According to the statement, the free entry will encompass marine parks, safari walks and animal orphanages from 6 am to 6pm.
To enter the parks, adult Kenyans will be required to present proof of identification while children accompanying parents or guardians with identification documents will be allowed in.
In cases where a facility reaches full capacity, Mutua asked Kenyans to exercise patience and allow departing visitors already in the parks to create space for others.
However, the CS maintained that all Kenyans will be expected to comply with the guidelines provided at the entry points.
In his statement, Mutua further urged governors in counties with national reserves to similarly waive entry fees for Kenyans.
Additionally, the CS called on Kenyans to take the opportunity and enjoy Kenya’s shared heritage and the natural features in various parks.
