A landlord in Naivasha has been left with substantial losses after a group of enraged locals brought down his rental property.
This drastic action stemmed from accusations hurled by resident that the landlord had been unlawfully seizing parcels of land in Kabati, Nakuru County.
According to these residents, the suspect targets unoccupied land, swiftly erecting temporary structures to solidify his claim, and subsequently developing rental accommodations.
The sentiment echoed throughout the community, with locals asserting that the alleged land grabber had been operating unchecked for years, with no arrests or thorough investigations conducted by law enforcement.
Further the locals said they have informed relevant authorities to help then handle the land issue, but their efforts have been in vain.
Naivasha Residents Call Out the Alleged Landgrabber
One of the aggrieved victims narrated that he found his land occupied, leaving him with no other option but to take matters into his own hands to sned the land grabber away.
“We want the police to intervene and send this man back home. We are here because he had stolen this piece of land,” he noted.
Despite being asked to furnish proof of ownership on one occasion, the suspect brazenly disregarded the directive and persisted with his construction activities.
“He has taken over 10 plots belonging to Kabati residents. I have an ongoing case with this person at Naivasha OCS office, he has neglected calls to present his land ownership papers.
“I have come today and found him proceeding with the construction process,” said Simon Mwangi alleging to be the owner of the land.

Other Accusations
Accusations against the landlord extended beyond land grabbing, with Naivasha residents condemning the substandard quality of his rental properties.
“Who is this man and why are they allowing him to continue? He has grabbed multiple parcels of land here in Kabati,” remarked one resident, highlighting the broader discontent within the community.
Armed with sledgehammers, the residents descended upon the rental properties on Tuesday, 6th 2024 embarking on a demolition spree that left a chaotic scene of shattered windows and debris.

Their actions spared no house, driven by a collective sense of grievance over the alleged land encroachments.
Despite the destructive nature of their protest, the group remained vigilant, ensuring safety to avoid any injuries during their demolition mission.
