The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested suspects and recovered rifles and ammunitions in several Counties across the Country.
In a statement on May 29, the National Police Service (NPS) said a team of DCI and General Service Unit (GSU) in Laikipia North Sub-County recovered a Carbine Rifle and 53 rounds of ammunition from a robbery suspect.
“A team of NPS Officers (DCI and GSU) in Laikipia North Sub-County on May 28, 2024, recovered a Carbine Rifle and 53 rounds of ammunition from a robbery suspect, namely Renkel Lentaam, 46,” NPS said in a statement.
“The suspect, who was apprehended in Nanyuki Town, led the Officers to Mukogodo Forest, where the items had been hidden.”
DCI Recovers Missing Rifles
Meanwhile, on the same day, the DCI raided a home in Lodwar Village, Mutuati Sub County in Meru County and recovered four firearms and ammunitions.
“Today, 28/05/2024, NPS officers raided a home in Lodwar Village, Kabachi Location, Mutuati Sub County and recovered four firearms (two G3 rifles, a Mini Beretta, Carbine AK47), 22 rounds of ammunitions and other crude weapons,” read a statement in part.

However, the suspect, Ayub Kimathi escaped during the operation but the DCI in Mutuati is investigating the matter, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.
Similarly, another firearm, an AK47 rifle, was also recovered at the residence of a suspected violent robber and drug trafficker in Meru County, by detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Police said they were pursuing Geoffrey Thuranira who escaped from his house in Murunya village, Meru, leaving behind the AK47 rifle loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition.
Detectives also recovered a bale of bhang suspected to have originated from Ethiopia giving an indication the suspect is among the narcotics traffickers.
Detectives Recover Firearm Stolen from Police Officer
Elsewhere, detectives on Sunday May 26 recovered a firearm that was stolen from a female police officer in Kasarani, Nairobi in February 2024 was found abandoned at the gate of Githurai police post.

Police said the Scorpion firearm, which was recovered in Kasarani, was stolen from the police constable on February 16, 2024, when she and her colleague were attacked while on night-round duties within the Kiwanjani area of Githurai 44.
The recovered firearm was loaded with 23 rounds and abandoned near the gate of Githurai Police Post.
