Bensoul is a Kenyan musician, singer, and songwriter known for his hits like “Lucy” and “Favourite Song“.
He was born and raised in the Dallas slum of Embu on March 4, 1994.
Benson Mutua Muia, being his real name, was raised by a single mother.
His musical passion was sparked by his musician father, who was a bass and electric guitar player.
Educational Background
Embu Urban Primary School, located in Embu, Kenya, was where he received his primary education.
For the secondary education, he attended Kagumo High School in Kiganjo, Nyeri, Kenya.
Later, he joined the Technical University of Kenya (TUK) in Nairobi, Kenya, where he pursued Civil Engineering, but he dropped out in his Third Year to focus on his music career.

Family
Bensoul has a daughter, Trinity, with Tiffany Muikamba Wanjiru, an entrepreneur and mental health activist.
They met at the 2021 Tusker Oktobafest concert, and they are currently co-parenting.
Musical Journey
He wrote his first music while still in high school, where he served as pianist and occasionally directed the choir.
In 2013, he started his music career professionally.
The Kenyan Trio H_art the band took him as their bass guitar player and music director. In 2016, they released the song ‘Masheesha’ together with Bensoul.
Benssoul was also the first artist to sign with Sol Generation Records and release popular songs.
On February 26, 2019, he released his official debut single ‘Lucy’, then he dropped his debut ‘Qwarantunes’ in May 2020 under the Sil Generation Records label.
It has Forget You, No Kisses, Salama, and Peddi.
He also released the ‘Medicine’ debut album in 2021, which has tracks like Stereo, Sugar Rush, Ntalala Nawe, and Medicine.
After his five-year deal with Sol Generation Records ended in 2023, he established his own label, ‘Lion of Sudah’.

Then he released an album with the same title, which has more than ten tracks, including Melody, Navutishwa, Viva La Vida, Chizi, Same Page, Miracles, Somebody New, Napepea, Dreams, and Hatijachelewa, among others.
Bensoul’s latest album, titled ‘The Prayer & The After Party,’ was released in July 2025.
The Party, Kesha, Mpaka Che, Finally, Chupa kwa Chupa, Extra Pressure, Interlude, Dancing in Daylight, Send It, and Holiday, among other tracks, are all contained in the album.
He has done collaborations with iconic artists like Okello Max, Mordecai Dex, Bien Savara, Fancy Fingers, Juma Jux, Wanavokali, Bayanni, Nadia Mukami, Zzero Sufuri, Nvirii the Storyteller, Mejja, and Nemless, among others.
Awards
Bensoul won the Grammy Awards in 2021 for Best Global Music Album for his contribution to Burna Boy’s album ‘Twice as Tall’.
He won the Pulse Music Video Awards in 2021 for Best collaboration on the song “Nakufa” featuring Okello Max and Amlyoto, among other awards and nominations.
Bensoul is a compelling voice in Kenya’s music scene, with his soulful lyrics and acclaimed collaborations earning him both an international and national fan base and respect.
