David Ndakwa Biography
David Athman Ndakwa is a Kenyan politician who currently holds the position of Kabras West Member of County Assembly (MCA), where he serves as the Leader of the Minority.
As the minority leader, Ndakwa is responsible for developing the minority position, negotiating with the majority party, directing minority caucus activities on the floor, and leading and defending debates on behalf of the minority.
Ndakwa won the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominations for the Malava Constituency by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025, following the death of the previous MP, Malulu Injendi, in February 2025.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has since endorsed him for the seat. Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa announced that the party won’t be fielding a candidate in the Malava by-election, which potentially consolidates votes in favor of Ndakwa.
His close relationship with the President’s personal assistant, Farouk Kibet, appears to be catalyzing his political visibility for the position, and could serve as an influence for a successful sweep of votes.
He will be facing off against notable opponents, including Seth Panyako of DAP-K and Wilberforce Tuvei from Kenya Moja.
Ndakwa’s eligibility to contest had been questioned by some citizens following his current position as an MCA, where some argue that he should resign first before vying for the MP position. However, the IEBC has advised that he doesn’t need to resign, and the matter remains under debate among legal experts.

Ndakwa’s Early Life and Educational Background
David Ndakwa was born in Kabras West ward, Kakamega County, in 1973. He joined Kalenda Primary School, where he completed his primary education and obtained the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1987.
Ndakwa later joined Samitsi Secondary School and sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 1991.
He holds a Degree in Information Science from Moi University and a Diploma in Information Studies from the University of Nairobi, which contributes to his campaigns for affordable education among the Kabras people.

Political Career
Ndakwa entered politics and showed his political prowess by winning his first election in the August 2017 general elections.
He was re-elected in 2022 on an Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket, serving as Minority Leader in the Kakamega County Assembly during both terms, a position he held until late September 2025, when he resigned to focus on his campaign as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for the Malava parliamentary by-election on November 27, 2025.
He triumphantly won the nominations by garnering 6,477 votes against former MP’s son, Ryan Injendi, who got 3,783 votes.
