Jayesh Saini Umesh is a Kenyan healthcare entrepreneur whose business interests span Bliss Healthcare, LifeCare Hospitals, pharmaceutical ventures and a proposed acquisition of ABC Bank, placing him among the prominent figures in Kenya’s private healthcare industry.
Early Life and Education
Jayesh Umesh Saini was raised in Kenya in a family with roots in the healthcare sector.
His father, Dr Umesh Saini, established Nairobi West Hospital in the 1980s after moving to Kenya from India.
Growing up around the family’s medical business exposed Jayesh to hospital operations and the challenges of delivering healthcare services.
Saini credits his father for his later decision to build businesses that expand access to medical care.
According to a profile published by Business Monthly in November–December 2022, he worked at the family-owned Nairobi West Hospital while in his mid-twenties.
Saini later pursued further finance training at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, where he earned an Advanced Finance Management qualification.
He subsequently entered the family healthcare business before establishing Bliss Healthcare in 2012.
Career of Jayesh Saini
Saini entered healthcare through Nairobi West Hospital, the institution his father, Dr Umesh Saini, established.
There, he gained practical experience in hospital operations, healthcare management, and the business side of medical services before launching his own ventures.

In 2012, Saini founded Bliss Healthcare, which began as an outpatient healthcare provider. The company expanded rapidly across Kenya, opening clinics in numerous counties and offering consultations, laboratory testing, pharmacy services, dental care, radiology, dialysis, and optical treatment.
Over time, it became one of the country’s largest outpatient healthcare chains.
Bliss Healthcare’s growth was boosted by its participation in major public and private health schemes, including government-sponsored medical cover programs.
Bliss held capitation contracts under the government medical cover for teachers and the National Police Service, and was an accredited NHIF outpatient provider.
The teachers’ medical cover, valued at about Sh53 billion over three years, ended on 30 November 2025.
The police and prisons cover ended on 31 March 2026.
In 2017, he expanded into inpatient care by establishing LifeCare Hospitals, beginning with a facility in Bungoma.
The hospital network subsequently expanded to Eldoret, Kikuyu, Migori, Meru and Mlolongo.
Saini’s group also established a hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, extending its operations beyond Kenya.
The facilities provide surgery, maternity care, intensive care, emergency medicine, dialysis, and other advanced treatments.
Saini has announced plans for six additional Kenyan hospitals and more than 2,600 beds, with Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia listed as target markets.
Saini’s pharmaceutical interests include DINLAS Pharma EPZ Limited, which supplies medicines, and Medicross, which operates 22 outpatient centres.
His wider portfolio also includes Fertility Point Kenya, which provides fertility treatment, and Medical Administrators (K) Limited, a healthcare administration company in which he is a beneficial owner.
Saini is the beneficial owner of Medical Administrators (K) Limited, a scheme administrator. Company records indicate the ownership chain runs from Bliss Healthcare and Administrators LLC in the UAE to Bliss Healthcare (K) Limited to MAKL.
On 7 August 2025, the Social Health Authority gazetted the suspension of 40 facilities, including LifeCare Hospitals Bungoma, over alleged fraudulent claims.
In September 2026, the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) approved Saini’s acquisition of sole control of ABC Bank, a lender with 12 branches and approximately Ksh50 billion in assets.
He received a Global Leader Award in Dubai (2023) and the MOI Investor of the Year award, awarded on 5 December 2025.
The Jayesh – JKIA Dispute
One of the most public challenges to Jayesh Saini’s business empire emerged in 2024 when he became embroiled in a bitter dispute with Kenyan whistleblower Nelson Amenya, who had gained national attention after raising concerns about the proposed Adani-JKIA deal.
The row escalated after Amenya made a series of claims on social media and in public forums linking Saini to controversies surrounding Kenya’s healthcare sector, including questions over the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and alleged influence within major government-linked health projects.
Amenya also linked Saini to broader debates about transparency and accountability in public-private partnerships.
Saini strongly rejected the allegations, maintaining that the claims were false and defamatory.
The healthcare billionaire responded by filing legal action against Amenya in Kenya and France, where the whistleblower was based.
On 11 September 2024, Saini filed suit against Amenya in Nairobi.
Through the lawsuits, Saini sought damages and a retraction of statements he argued had damaged his reputation and business interests.
In January 2025, the conflict took a significant turn when a French court dismissed Saini’s defamation case against Amenya.

The court found that the comments related to matters of public interest and were therefore protected under freedom of expression.
The court ordered Saini to pay €5,000, about Ksh670,000 at the time, toward Amenya’s legal fees and wasted time.
Plaintiffs were Saini and four companies — LifeCare Hospitals, Bliss Healthcare, Medicross Healthcare and Dinlas Pharma.
They sought a declaration that the statements were defamatory, a public apology and a retraction.
The Kenyan court also declined to grant interim orders, holding that the issues Amenya raised were matters of legitimate public interest that required full adjudication at trial.
Amenya is represented by lawyer Willis Otieno.
