The office of the former President Uhuru Kenyatta has warned the public against social media accounts impersonating him, former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta and their children.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 27, the Office of the Fourth President said it operates only two official social media accounts, on Facebook and X, both using the username @4thPresidentKE.
The office further identified its official Facebook page as Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya, while its X account is listed as Office of the 4th President of Kenya.
“The Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, wishes to inform the general public that the office operates only two official social media accounts,
Account name: Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya. Username: @4thPresidentKE. URL: https://web.facebook.com/4thPresidentKE/,” read part of the statement.
Uhuru Kenyatta’s Office Warns Kenyans to Exercise Caution Over Fake Accounts
It further clarified that Uhuru, Margaret, and their children do not operate personal social media accounts, urging the public to disregard any other pages or profiles claiming to represent the former First Family.
The office advised Kenyans to rely exclusively on the two verified platforms for authentic information and official communication concerning the former President and his family.
“Members of the public are therefore advised to exercise caution and disregard any social media accounts, pages or profiles purporting to represent or speak on behalf of H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, H.E. Margaret Kenyatta or their children, other than the two official accounts listed above,” read part of the statement.
Currently, Uhuru’s official X account has more than 129,000 followers and a verification badge, while his Facebook page has approximately 84,000 followers.

Deletion of Previous Accounts
During his presidency, Uhuru maintained a prominent X account under the handle @UKenyatta, which had more than three million followers before it was deactivated. His pages also communicated presidential statements, government announcements, and public messages, providing a channel to share official activities and engage with Kenyans.
The accounts were deactivated on March 22, 2019. At the time, State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita said the suspension followed unauthorized access to the President’s official social media handles and was intended to allow remedial measures to be taken.
In 2020, the former president said he had left social media because he did not see any constructive engagement on the platforms.
“Just because you are making headlines, don’t think you will bother me. That is why I stopped concentrating on newspapers and social media. Let us concentrate on work,” Uhuru said.
Before the accounts were deactivated, Uhuru had shared a strong anti-corruption message that sparked controversy, declaring that he would fight corruption regardless of whether those involved were his siblings or closest political allies.

The former President returned to social media in November 2022, shortly after leaving office, through new accounts using the handle @4thPresidentKE. Unlike his former personal presidential accounts, the current platforms operate under the name Office of the Fourth President of Kenya and focus on communicating the activities and positions of his office.
Social media content covers a range of issues, including regional peace efforts and diplomacy, particularly his involvement in the Nairobi Peace Process and developments in the Great Lakes region.
The accounts also publish messages calling for national unity, condolences following the deaths of prominent figures, and tributes marking national events and commemorations.
Other posts highlight education, youth empowerment, and health initiatives, along with updates on public appearances, memorial services, graduations, and other official engagements. The office also publishes birthday messages and personal tributes relating to Uhuru.
The tone across the platforms is largely formal and institutional, with content presented as official communication rather than personal commentary.
