RHYAN INJENDI

NAME RHYAN INJENDI
AGE 34 YEARS
GENDER MALE
OCCUPATION POLITICIAN

Rhyan Injendi, also known as Injendi wa Malulu is a Kenyan politician and an aspirant to be the Member of Parliament for Malava Constituency.

Early life and education

Rhyan Injendi, the eldest son of the late Malava Member of Parliament, Malulu Injendi, was raised in a family deeply rooted in education and community service.

His childhood was largely shaped by academic discipline and a strong emphasis on integrity, with politics only entering the family sphere when his father ventured into elective politics in 2013.

Growing up in Kakamega County, Rhyan experienced a modest upbringing, grounded in rural values that emphasized hard work, service to others, and the transformative power of education.

For his early schooling, Rhyan attended local institutions in Kakamega, where he excelled academically and actively participated in co-curricular activities, demonstrating early leadership potential.

He later advanced to higher education, pursuing a path that blended business and policy studies.

After completing his undergraduate degree, Rhyan enrolled at the University of Nairobi, where he successfully earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Driven by a passion for research and public policy, he proceeded to Kenyatta University, where he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

His decision to focus on higher education was partly influenced by his father’s belief that public service is best anchored in knowledge and professionalism.

Career

Professional career

After completing his undergraduate education, Rhyan ventured into the banking sector, where he gained hands-on experience in Kenya’s financial industry.

Over the years, Rhyan held various positions in commercial banks, working his way up through different departments.

His roles included assistant bank officer, product supervisor, and finance assistant, positions that allowed him to develop a solid understanding of retail banking, product management, and financial operations.

In August 2022, Rhyan transitioned from the private sector to the legislative arena, joining the Parliament of Kenya as a Policy and Research Analyst.

In this capacity, he provided technical and research support to legislators, contributing to the development of bills, policy briefs, and legislative proposals.

His role involved conducting in-depth research, analysing socio-economic data, and offering evidence-based recommendations to support decision-making within parliamentary committees.

Alongside his formal employment, Rhyan was deeply involved in community development initiatives through the Malulu Injendi Foundation, an organization founded by his late father.

Within the foundation, he participated in designing development programs, mobilizing resources for education and health projects, and coordinating outreach activities such as youth mentorship and sports tournaments.

This community work not only enhanced his leadership profile but also helped him establish a strong grassroots presence in Malava Constituency.

By 2025, his growing influence in both professional and community spaces positioned him as a credible candidate for elective office.

Political career

Rhyan first publicly signalled his intent to run for his late father’s parliamentary seat during a memorial event.

Surrounded by notable UDA figures such as President Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, and Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro, he made it clear he aimed to continue his father’s development projects in Malava.

In April 2025, during a church-led commemorative event, Rhyan accepted calls to “complete the remaining two years” of his father’s development agenda.

By mid-July 2025, the Abasonje clan formally endorsed him as their preferred candidate, praising his leadership and commitment to finishing his father’s initiatives.

Reports in early April 2025 suggested he considered withdrawing after sensing resistance from UDA leadership, particularly regarding direct nomination.

In early July 2025, during a boda boda fundraiser, a presidential aide denied him a speaking opportunity, highlighting growing unease within UDA.

In an August 2025 interview, Rhyan addressed claims that his candidacy was built on sympathy following his father’s death.

He acknowledged the role of sympathy but shifted focus to his own vision and agenda.

He stated that the grieving period had ended and that the campaign had transitioned from mourning to a competitive political battle.

On the matter of party nomination, he prepared for all outcomes, including a scenario where UDA might deny him the ticket, emphasizing that his candidacy had evolved into a community-backed effort.

His bid drew comparisons to other legacy successions and fueled debate on whether such candidacies restrict access to elective positions.

Net Worth

Rhyan Injendi’s exact net worth remains uncertain and unverified, as no official financial disclosures or audited statements have been made public.

While a short video clip circulated on social media shows him claiming that his net worth is Ksh20 million, this figure has not been independently confirmed by credible sources or documented through public records.
