The Bodaboda Safety Association of Kenya (BAK) on Sunday October 6 announced that all bodaboda riders will undergo a mandatory training focused on passenger safety, respect, and ethical behavior.
This decision was arrived at after a bodaboda rider in Machakos was implicated in a case of sexual assault against a female passenger.
“In light of this incident, we are taking immediate steps to reinforce our commitment to safety and accountability within our ranks. We will be implementing the following measures,” part of the statement read.
Besides mandatory training, the Association said it is going to implement other measures which include:
- Establishing of a streamlined reporting mechanism for passengers to safely report any misconduct by rider.This will ensure that passengers feel secure when speaking out is crucial.
- Working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure that all allegations of misconduct are thoroughly investigated and that appropriate actions are taken against those found guilty.
- Launching of public awareness campaigns aimed at educating both riders and passengers about safety practices, rights, and responsibilities.
Bodaboda fresh training
At the same time, the Association through the National Executive Chairman condemned the act allegedly committed by the bodaboda rider.
“I want to unequivocally condemn this incident. We are committed to the safety and dignity of all passengers, and we take allegations of this nature very seriously.

Our primary objective is to ensure that bodaboda riders operate in a manner that is safe and respectful for all individuals,” the Chairman condemned.
Additionally, the Chairman assured the victim that the association was committed to ensuring justice would be served.
BAK condemns sexual assault
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the victim. The Bodaboda Safety Association of Kenya stands united in our mission to promote a safe, respectful, and professional environment for all,” the Chairman affirmed.
Moreover, the association called upon all stakeholders to work together to enhance a good culture within the bodaboda community.

“Join us in fostering a culture of safety and respect within the bodaboda community. Together, we can ensure that such incidents are not repeated,” the statement read.
