Ride-hailing company Bolt has expanded its Send parcel delivery service in Mombasa to include motorbikes, giving customers a faster way to move small parcels across the coastal city.
In a statement on August 18, Bolt said the motorbike option would complement its existing Bolt Send service, which was introduced in Mombasa in March 2026 using cars.
According to Bolt, the expansion targets individuals and businesses seeking more flexible, convenient delivery options as parcel delivery becomes increasingly important to Kenya’s growing online and small-business economy.
The company said the addition of motorbikes is intended to provide a practical option for smaller and time-sensitive deliveries that may not require a car.
Motorbikes are well-suited for short-distance deliveries in crowded cities because they can navigate traffic more efficiently and reach areas that may be difficult for larger vehicles.
“Motorbikes can navigate traffic and access locations more easily than larger vehicles, making them particularly suited to short-distance, time-sensitive deliveries. This gives customers an alternative for moving smaller items without having to rely on informal arrangements, make multiple phone calls or wait for a dedicated courier,” stated Bolt.
Bolt Send Targets Small Businesses
Bolt said the service is designed to serve a range of customers, including small retailers, online sellers, restaurants, pharmacies, offices and individuals.

A retailer can use the service to deliver an order to a customer, while businesses can move documents between offices without maintaining their own delivery fleet.
Online sellers can also use Bolt Send to fulfill customer orders without establishing an in-house delivery operation.
Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager, Rides, East Africa, said delivery has become an important part of how businesses serve their customers.
“Delivery has become an increasingly important part of how businesses serve their customers,” Kanyankole said.
She added that delays can lead to missed customers and higher operating costs for small businesses.
“With Bolt Send on motorbikes, we are making it easier to move smaller parcels around Mombasa using infrastructure that people already know and use,” she said.
Customers Can Track Parcels
Customers can request Bolt Send directly through the Bolt app, receive an upfront price estimate and track their delivery in real time.
According to Bolt, eligible driver-partners transport parcels, giving businesses access to delivery capacity without requiring them to operate their own fleet.
The company said the service could also reduce the need for customers to rely on informal delivery arrangements or make multiple calls to organize transportation for individual parcels.

The motorbike option is expected to be particularly useful for smaller deliveries where speed and ease of movement through traffic are important.
Delivery Demand Grows in Mombasa
Bolt said the expansion comes as e-commerce and social-commerce continue to change how businesses interact with customers.
For small and medium-sized enterprises, delivery has increasingly become part of the customer experience, with businesses seeking ways to fulfill orders as they are received rather than relying only on scheduled or fixed-route courier services.
The company said an on-demand model lets businesses access delivery capacity when needed, without the costs of maintaining vehicles or employing dedicated delivery staff.
The expansion will also allow eligible motorcycle driver-partners on the Bolt platform to take on parcel deliveries and earn through the service alongside other offerings.
Bolt said the move is part of its broader strategy to use its existing technology and driver-partner network to meet changing mobility and logistics needs in Kenya’s urban areas.
