Activist Boniface Mwangi has publicly denounced a statement issued by the Kenya Liberation Movement (KELMO), which calls for a total shutdown of the country and the formation of a transitional authority during protests scheduled for Tuesday, July 23.
In a statement on X, Mwangi claimed that the letter by KELMO, dated July 19, is a product of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), suggesting that it is designed to misrepresent the upcoming protests as an attempt to overthrow the government.
“This is a National Intelligence-authored statement to paint the protests on Tuesday as a mutiny,” claimed Mwangi.
He criticized the government for attempting to portray the younger generation, particularly those participating in the Gen-Z protests, as ungrateful and uninformed.
He characterized this move as a “desperate” attempt by a government that is disconnected from the realities faced by its citizens.
“It is to paint Gen Zs as those young/ungrateful persons who have no understanding and want to overthrow the Government. Desperate moves by a tone-deaf government. #TribeKatiba” said Mwangi.

It asserts that the “sovereign wish and will of the people of Kenya” is for President William Ruto and his administration to resign.
The letter goes on to inform both the nation and the international community about plans for a transitional authority, which would include the Kenya Defense Forces, the Judiciary, and KELMO itself.
According to KELMO, this authority is intended to oversee a peaceful transfer of power, beginning at 11:59 PM on July 23, until a new president is appointed in accordance with the Constitution.
