President William Ruto has announced a major boost for Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and police officers, promising exclusive housing benefits aimed at improving their living conditions.
Speaking at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Police Housing project in Industrial Area, Nairobi, on June 3, 2025, President William Ruto announced that 20% of all housing program units will be specifically reserved for members of the disciplined forces.
“We will reserve 20 per cent of our housing units under the Affordable Housing Programme for members of the Kenya Defence Forces, the National Police Service, the National Youth Service and the Kenya Prisons Service,” Ruto said.
The announcement came during the opening of the CBK Police Housing Complex, which features 200 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom fully furnished apartments for police officers.
Ruto Announces Exclusive Housing Benefits for KDF and Police
Further, the President announced key benefits to support officers, including affordable funding options with attractive terms such as single-digit interest rates of 3% for social housing, 6% for affordable housing, and 9% for high-market houses.
Currently, 2,300 housing units specifically for police and prison officers are under construction across 15 counties, including Tharaka Nithi, Nairobi, Bungoma, Mandera, Machakos, Tana River, Nyandarua, and Uasin Gishu.
In addition, procurement is underway for 17,000 housing units, 3,000 of which are designated for the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), while 10,000 units will be built for the police service with construction set to commence by the end of the month.

Govt Pledge to KDF & Police
“We are committed to providing permanent housing for our officers to ensure secure and dignified living. Your families will reside in safe and stable homes as you continue to serve and protect Kenyans,” Ruto said.
Additionally, Ruto stated that the government deeply appreciates the sacrifices made by disciplined forces in serving the nation, asserting commitment to providing them with decent and permanent housing, ensuring their families live in secure and dignified conditions.
“We recognize the unique sacrifices you make, often serving far from your homes and families, standing guard to ensure the nation thrives,” he added.

CBK Project for State Officers
The project stems from an innovative Memorandum of Understanding between the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the National Police Service.
Under this agreement, CBK leased 4.1 acres of land from the National Police Service for 60 years to develop the housing complex.
In return, CBK committed to constructing the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong, Kajiado County a facility.
