Police in Funyula,. Busia County are investigating the death of a form three student who met his death after drowning in a dam.
The student from Bukiri Mixed Secondary met his death after he drowned in Matinga Dam.
According to a police report seen by The Kenya Times, the learner identified as Nelson Okumu was sent home over unkempt hair on Monday, February 27 but diverted to the dam for a swim instead of going home.

The deceased was in the company of three friends from his school when the unfortunate incident happened.
According to the area chief, the boys decided to take a quick swim before resuming learning at their school.
“I questioned the boy’s friends who told me they decided to come here for a swim before going back to school,” Rumbiye Assistant Chief said.
When the deceased drowned, his schoolmates raised alarm and villagers rushed to rescue him, but their efforts were futile.
The assistant chief told police that efforts to retrieve the learner’s body were met with difficulties because the area lacked divers.
However, after a couple of attempts, the body was retrieved from the dam and transferred to Nangina Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
