The government of Cambodia has dismissed reports claiming that Kenyan citizens and other African nationals are being expelled from the country, terming the information circulating online as false.
In a statement on May 29, the General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior said it had noted recent reports published by some websites alleging that Africans with expired immigration waivers had been ordered to leave Cambodia by May 31.
“The General Department of Immigration of the Ministry of Interior of the Kingdom of Cambodia wishes to clarify that the information published on those websites is completely untrue,” read part of the statement.

According to the immigration authority, the reports do not reflect the government’s position.

The Cambodian government further encouraged the public to visit the official website of the General Department of Immigration or contact its hotline for accurate information.

The notice, presented as issued by the General Department of Immigration under the Ministry of Interior, claimed that the waiver granted to Kenyan nationals, along with citizens of Ghana, Cameroon, Uganda and other African countries, would expire at the end of May, effectively bringing the arrangement to a close.
“The Royal Government of Cambodia, through the General Department of Immigration, Ministry of Interior, wishes to inform all African nationals, including citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda, and others, that the waiver granted to you will officially end on 31st of May 2026,” the notice read.
It further stated that all affected individuals who had already cleared any outstanding fines were required to depart Cambodia before the stated deadline.
