A CCTV footage has helped authorities identify the key suspect behind the invasion and malicious damage of property at Kitengela Sub-County Hospital during the Monday, July 7, 2025, Saba Saba protests.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in a statement issued on Saturday, July 11, said the suspect, identified as Elvis Otieno Owino, has been arrested.
The DCI stated that upon his arrest, Owino led investigators to his rented residence in Noonkopir, where they recovered a black marvin cap and a grey jacket.
According to the investigative agency, the recovered items matched those he was seen wearing in the CCTV footage during the incident.
“Owino is now in custody as authorities continue to process the case and pursue additional leads to bring other suspects to justice,” the DCI said.
During Monday’s protests, goons vandalised Kitengela Sub-County Hospital, leaving behind a trail of blood-stained floors, torn gloves, scattered medical supplies, and shattered windowpanes, turning the facility into a battleground.

The rowdy goons in the hundreds broke into several wards at the hospital and stole valuables.
In videos circulating online, the mob was seen storming the hospital’s emergency department, catching doctors and nurses completely off guard as they tended to patients.
The group disrupted medical services and even gained access to an operating theatre while a caesarean section (CS) procedure was in progress.
Sources at the hospital described the scene as terrifying, with fear and confusion spreading across the entire facility. Tear gas was fired throughout the premises, putting the health of patients and medical staff at risk.

Kajiado County Executive Committee Member for Medical Services and Public Health, Alex Kilowua, said a group that had brought in an injured person turned unruly, intimidating health workers and disrupting emergency care.
He added that the attackers caused unnecessary panic, interfered with operations, and endangered both patients and frontline healthcare workers.
While confirming that no staff or patients were physically harmed, Kilowua condemned the targeting of a health facility, saying it undermines public trust and access to critical medical services.
“Any act that threatens the safety of our frontline workers or undermines essential medical care is not only irresponsible, but also indefensible. Such actions have no place in our society,” read part of his statement.
The Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society (KOGS) described the intrusion by goons into the hospital as a gross violation of the sanctity of healthcare and a direct threat to patients’ lives.
“Of particular concern is the terrifying disruption of the hospital’s operating theatre while a mother was undergoing a caesarean section – a moment that should be safeguarded by the highest standard of medical protection and dignity,” the statement read.
