Charlene Ruto Issues Update on Ksh194K Cash Prize Competition After Website Crashes

President William Ruto‘s daughter, Charlene Ruto, has issued an update on a competition aimed at empowering Kenyan youth.

Charlene had through an advertisement shared on Saturday, January 11, announced the launch of a UI/UX website design competition for her organization, The Young People’s Network International (TYPNI), which she founded and serves as patron.

The competition offers successful applicants a chance to win a total prize of $1,500 (approximately Ksh194,000).

To participate, applicants, including company directors, were encouraged to form teams of three, with all members aged between 18 and 35.

Participants were also required to submit three links showcasing their previous work, along with a brief technical proposal.

“It’s time for our next big thing – the Website Competition! If you’re between 18-35 years, gather a team of 3 and show us what you’ve got!” President Ruto’s daughter said in the announcement.

“Win $1,500 USD! Let’s see your creativity shine with TYPNI.”

However, Charlene on Wednesday, January 15, addressed technical challenges that has affected the submission process in the past 72 hours.

The first daughter requested that applicants who had sent emails but had not received confirmation responses resend their submissions.

“Thank you for your interest in the TYPNI UI/UX website competition. We kindly ask all participants who have not received a confirmation response to resend their entries due to technical issues in the last 72 hours. We appreciate your enthusiasm and look forward to receiving your proposals!” she said.

Accessibility- Use readable fonts and high-contrast colours for inclusive design.

Unique Features- Propose creative elements that make the design memorable and stand out.

Community Engagement- Suggest features that encourage user interaction and community building.

Mobile-First Design- Prioritize a layout optimized for mobile viewing.

Youthful Appeal- Use vibrant, modern visuals and TYPNI colours.

Simple Navigation- Ensure easy exploration with clear intuitive navigation.

To participate in this competition, interested candidates were directed to share their proposals and links on niaje@typni.com.

Submission deadline for the proposal has been set on February 11, 2025, with the public voting period set between February 25 and March 4.

Winners will be announced on March 3, 2025.

Winners presented with cash prize

Last year, Charlene Ruto had also announced another competition for TYPNI logo in which the winner took home Ksh100, 000.

“TYPNI is seeking a distinctive logo that embodies a youthful spirit and creativity. The competition provides an opportunity for young designers to showcase their talent and contribute to the vibrant identity of TYPNI,” read an update.

Charlene then presented the winner of the competition, Kevin Chege, 1st runners up Sheldon Avedi and 2nd runners up Cynthia Wambui with their gift packages on May 19, 2024.
