Charlene Ruto, the daughter of President William Ruto, on Wednesday, July 10, commented on the feedback she received from young Kenyans regarding the recent X space hosted by the President named #EngageThePresident.

Her response follows a previous post asking for feedback on the #EngageThePresident event held on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The X space was aimed at creating a direct dialogue between the President and the nation’s youth, addressing their concerns and ideas.

In her statement, Charlene said she had gone through the feedback and relayed it.

“Taken time to go through and reflect on your comments from my last post where I requested for feedback and thoughts on #EngageThePresident. Thank you for sharing your insights. Much appreciated. Feedback has been shared,” Charlene Ruto stated in her post on social media.

Charlene Ruto on Protests

In a statement on July 3, Charlene Ruto had expressed her stance on the events of June 25 condemning what she termed as “chaotic” protests.

“Peace is something that has been far from us in recent days. It is something that we are praying for and leading the front in attaining as young people,” she said.

“This is why we stand against the particular protests that have shown no leadership from young people but rather a push from dark forces to create chaos in a country that we so love,” Charlene added.

Despite the challenges, Charlene urged the youth to use their voices and platforms constructively to promote peace across the country.

Charlene also expressed her willingness to listen, learn, and work alongside the youth to find solutions for the country.

“I am here to listen, learn and work alongside you. I am here for you,” said the First Daughter.

Reactions to Charlene Ruto’s Comment on Protests

At the time, Charlene Ruto’s statement had sparked mixed reactions among Gen Z.

Her remarks were met with both criticism and support from young people. Some echoed her call for order, agreeing that the protests have become unruly and counterproductive.

They believe that a peaceful approach is essential for meaningful change.

On the other hand, many accused her of undermining genuine grievances and failing to address the root causes of the unrest.

They argue that the protests are a legitimate response to longstanding issues such as unemployment, corruption, and social inequality.

Defending Government

Earlier, Charlene had defended her father’s administration, stating that President Ruto holds the best interests of Kenyans at heart.

“As a president’s daughter, I have no doubt in my mind, watching my father rise in politics for over 30 years, seeing his work and passion behind the scenes, that he truthfully holds the best interests of Kenyans at heart,” she said.

Her comments came just days after President Ruto extended an olive branch to the youth of the country, expressing that his government was ready to engage with them and find solutions to the various issues affecting them.

“We are going to engage the youth and have conversations so that we can identify your issues,” said Ruto.
