A plane carrying six people crashed and burst into flames in the Chepkiep area of Mosop Constituency, Nandi County, on Saturday, February 28.
The aircraft reportedly made an emergency landing before bursting into flames at around 4.45pm.
Nandi County police boss, Samuel Mukuusi, confirmed the incident and reported that the six people aboard were killed.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene as investigations into the cause of the crash began.
Plane Crashes at Mosop
According to flight-tracking data, the aircraft, registered as 5Y-DSB, departed Nairobi at 11:02 AM on February 28, 2026. Records further show that on February 22, the Airbus helicopter took off from Nairobi at 1:32 PM.
Also on February 21, it made a trip from Nairobi to Wilson Airport, departing at 9:32 am and landing at 6:16 pm.

At the scene, authorities have recovered a mobile phone belonging to a politician, who is said to have been among the passengers. The remaining are yet to be identified.
Eyewitnesses said the plane was forced to stop following the ongoing heavy rainfall. However, after the rain stopped, the pilot attempted to continue the journey, but the aircraft reportedly hit a tree and was involved in a fatal accident.
Kenya Met Warns of Expected Floods
Earlier, the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) had warned that heavy rainfall would persist across several parts of the country through early March.
In the update shared on Wednesday, February 25, the Weather Department stated that rainfall exceeding 20 millimeters within 24 hours had been recorded in several areas, and it was expected to continue from February 25 to February 28, 2026.
The department cautioned that flooding may occur even in areas that have not experienced heavy rain, especially in downstream areas where water flows from higher ground.

Urban centres, low-lying settlements, and regions near rivers are considered particularly vulnerable.
