Confusion and anxiety have gripped some candidates who sat the just concluded Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
This following complaints from candidates and parents pointing to possible errors in the marks the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) sent to them.
For instance, some candidates received marks for the Kenya Sign Language subject in their results which most of them did not sit.
In addition, some candidates complained of receiving SMS with different results from those on the KNEC portal.
Also, among the concerns raised was about grades with several candidates questioning the system of grading used.
Moi Primary School in Kabarak also in a statement informed parents and candidates who sat the KCPE in its center that it would appeal for a revision of the KCPE marks amid concerns over unexpected results.
“However, as a school we are not satisfied by the result since it does not reflect the ability of majority of our learners by merit,” the Moi Primary statement read.
“As such, we have appealed to KNEC for review of the same and hope that it will look into the matter and act expeditiously,” the school’s management stated.
In their plea, the parents and schools demanded prompt response to their grievances from the Ministry and examination council.
KNEC gives direction
KNEC, in its response, acknowledged having received the complaints about the errors from disgruntled candidates.
However, the Council stated that the error was from the SMS service providers and not from its end as perceived in some quarters.
