The High Court has issued the way forward on a case involving blogger and activist Ndiang’ui Kinyagia, who appeared before the court on July 3, 2025, weeks after he went missing from his house in Kinoo, Kiambu County.
After going missing on June 22, Ndiang’ui showed up at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi on Thursday following weeks of speculation and uproar about his whereabouts.
His lawyer, Wahome Thuku, said that the blogger “had hidden temporarily for fear of his life upon learning that DCI officers were looking for him over unknown criminal allegations”, adding that the blogger contacted a family member on Tuesday evening from an undisclosed location.
Following his appearance before Justice Bahati Mwamuye, the judge granted Kinyagia’s family time to spend time and take the petitioner for medical attention.

Also, the judge directed that police shall not arrest him or detain him until further orders are issued on July 18 and July 24, 2025.

Lawyer Wahome Thuku had earlier said that Ndiang’ui indicated that he is ready and willing to present himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and to be presented before any court of law when his safety and security are guaranteed.
“We have therefore advised him to present himself before the High Court at Milimani Law Courts today,” Thuku said.
Videos showed the blogger turning up in court in a maroon hooded sweatshirt, a face mask, and glasses, with his family breaking down in emotion as they embraced him.
His disappearance had sparked anger among Kenyans and a court order directing the police to produce the blogger as many Kenyans suspected it to be another case of the recent abduction of youthful government critics.
DCI denies having blogger in custody
Ndiang’ui had been missing after being he was reportedly forcefully picked up from the house by suspected security officers in Subaru vehicles, according to the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) which cited the blogger’s neighbors.

However, the DCI Director Mohamed Amin in public statement on Monday denied having Kinyagia in custody.
Amin furthers said that the blogger was a person of interest to the DCI and urged that him to submit and surrender himself to the authorities.
He also confirmed that Kinyagia was linked to an X account that posted a viral photo of a mock invitation to last Wednesday’s demonstration commemorating last year’s deadly anti-finance bill protests.
The mock image, shared on June 19, featured Kenya’s coat of arms and an itinerary of events, including a march to State House and the swearing-in of a so-called transition council.
