Three men suspected of being mobilizers of goon violence have been arrested in connection with the violent protests that occurred on June 25, when property was destroyed, businesses looted, and people injured.
In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on June 28, 2025, confirmed the arrest of the suspects, who are alleged to have incited and coordinated the attacks through social media and other channels.
The suspects, John Mulingwa Nzau alias Garang, Mark Amiani alias Generali, and Francis Mutunge Mwangi alias Chebukati, were arrested on Friday, June 27, during an intelligence-led operation.
How the suspected goons were arrested by DCI
“In an intelligence-led operation conducted on Friday, June 27, DCI detectives intercepted and arrested three ill-reputed campaigners,” confirmed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Detectives intercepted a Mombasa-bound bus at Konza City, where the three were allegedly attempting to flee to the coastal region to avoid arrest.
DCI reports indicate that the suspects played key roles in mobilising groups that carried out theft, violence, and destruction of property in an incident that disrupted peace and endangered public safety.
Investigations revealed that their activities were deliberate and well-coordinated to provoke unrest under the guise of exercising the right to assembly and picketing.
Why they were suspected
The arrests followed testimonies from affected citizens and forensic analysis conducted by detectives, which linked the trio to social media content and planning networks used to incite the June 25 chaos.
The suspects were believed to be on their way to a hideout, unaware that the police were tracking their movements.
“The actions of the three mobilisers reflected a clear intention to cause violence,” the DCI said in a statement.

“Their conduct beat the logic and intention of the general public who sought to exercise their constitutionally protected rights peacefully.”
The events of June 25 left several individuals injured and caused significant losses to business owners whose premises were looted and vandalised during the unrest.
The DCI further stated that the suspects’ actions were not only unlawful but also aimed at undermining national stability.
Addressing the issue
Additionally, the DCI condemned the actions of the three mobilizers, which reflected a deliberate intention to cause violence.

The three suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
The DCI has confirmed that additional suspects have been identified and are being pursued.
“Investigations are ongoing to ensure all individuals involved in the planning and execution of the June 25 violence are brought to justice,” the investigative unit added.
