The ongoing investigations led by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) since the discovery of female mutilated bodies at the Kware dumpsite in Nairobi has taken a fresh twist.

Police spokesperson Dr Resila Atieno while speaking to The Kenya Times (TKT) on July 15, 2024, confirmed that a crucial arrest was made early Monday morning in Kayole, where the suspect was apprehended while attempting to hide.

The suspect resides just 500 meters from the Kware dumpsite, the scene where at least nine mutilated female bodies have been discovered since police and members of the public started retrieval operations.

The middle-aged man confessed to these serial killings and authorities described him as a psychopath.

Police tracked him down to a residence in Kayole where he was allegedly attempting to lure another victim.

A raid on his home yielded substantial evidence, including ten mobile phones, seven identity cards, ten sim cards, a panga (machete), gloves, and sacks similar to those found with the bodies at the dumpsite, along with ropes.

“We believe we have a key and prime suspect in the murder of people whose bodies have been found dumped in the Kware area,” said an officer close to the investigation.

Dr Resila further confirmed to TKT that one more body has since been recovered, claiming that the total number now stands at 9, with post-mortem examinations beginning on Monday morning.

DCI to Provide Update

DCI Director Mohamed Amin is expected to announce the significant breakthrough in the probe into the gruesome murders of several females whose bodies were recovered from the quarry dumpsite.

Amin in a press briefing is also expected to provide updates on the latest developments in the saga that has left the country in shock.

On Sunday, Amin had revealed that police were pursuing several leads in Mukuru female bodies case, including potential links to cult activities, serial killers, or rogue medical practitioners.

The investigation intensified after Acting Inspector General of Police (IG) Douglas Kanja announced the transfer of all officers stationed at the Kware Police Station to ensure a fair and unbiased probe into the incident.

Acting Police IG speaks

Kanja made the announcement as officials continued to search for more bodies at the Kware dumpsite, emphasizing the need for a thorough and impartial investigation to uncover the truth behind the heinous acts.

Preliminary investigations reveal that all the initial eight bodies recovered were female and had been severely dismembered.

“Nairobi Funeral Home is currently preserving eight bodies. Investigations reveal that all recovered bodies were female, severely dismembered, and in various states of decomposition,” Kanja stated.

He indicated that it would take police and investigative agencies 21 days to unravel the mystery behind the dismembered bodies found at the Kware dumpsite in Embakasi South Constituency.

DCI boss Mohamed Amin outlined the potential leads being pursued by investigators.
