The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has responded to a statement issued by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah in which he accused the directorate of being behind the alleged abduction of cartoonist George Kibet alias Kibet Bull.
Senator Omtatah on December 26, 2024, accused the DCI of tracking Kibet to his office where they had a meeting before the alleged abduction.
Omtatah said that a suspicious white Subaru Forester vehicle with surveillance equipment followed Yoko to his office, waited, and left shortly after his driver dropped the cartoonist at Kencom where he was to board a bus to Kikuyu.
The senator in his statement said he believes this vehicle was linked to Yoko’s abduction by unnamed DCI officers.
“I believe he was abducted by DCI officers, as soon as he arrived at my office my security detail told me they were monitoring a Subaru which was mounted with spy gadgets used to intercept communications. It was parked across the road from my office. It stayed at that location and left after Mr. Kibet left,” the Senator told journalists.
Okiya further said that on learning of the abduction, his team conducted a search on the mysterious vehicle on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) portal where it emerged that it belonged to a person named Caroline.
DCI responds to senator Okiya Omtatah’s allegations
Omtatah claimed that there is collusion by the state and that the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI boss Mohamed Amin should be held accountable for the recent abductions.
However, DCI on Thursday evening responded to Omtatah’s allegations, with the directorate’s boss Mohammed Amin saying they are being taken with “utmost seriousness.”

On Omtatah’s claims of the directorate being associated with the vehicle spotted at his office, DCI denied any involvement saying that the claims are “unfounded.”
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) takes note of the statement made by Senator Okiya Omtatah Okoiti regarding the reported sighting of a white Subaru vehicle linked to the alleged abduction of Mr. Gideon Kibet. We wish to emphasize that these allegations are being taken with utmost seriousness.
Firstly, we wish to clarify that the DCI categorically denies any association with the vehicle in question. The suggestion that a vehicle belonging to the DCI was involved in any alleged abduction is not only unfounded but also sensationalizes a sensitive issue that is currently under thorough investigation,” the statement reads.
The DCI further highlighted and supported an earlier assertion by the Inspector General (IG) of Police Douglas Kanja who stated that all police operations are conducted within the confines of the Constitution and established legal frameworks.

Investigations ongoing
The investigative agency said it has received reports of alleged abductions and assured that it “is diligently working to investigate these claims”.
“We urge any individuals with credible information on these matters to come forward and cooperate with our independent investigations. The DCI remains open and transparent in handling such cases, ensuring that justice is pursued without prejudice or compromise.”
At the same time, the directorate urged public leaders to refrain from making speculative statements that may hinder the progress of ongoing investigations.
The statement comes in response to allegations made by Omtatah who addressed journalists following widespread reports that Kibet Bull, who shot to fame after dedicating his X activities to sharing critical silhouettes, had gone missing.
Bull’s last activity on X was on December 24 at around 17:39 hours in which he shared two of his silhouettes.
Kibet’s family while speaking to Citizen Digital said that their kin went missing while he was on a mission to follow up on his brother’s disappearance and shortly after meeting Senator Omtatah.
