An unknown induvial took over the X account of Donald Trump Jnr, the son of former United States President Donald Trump.Â
On Wednesday, September 20, afternoon, a post claiming that the former president was dead surfaced on X sparking reactions from the perplexed users. Â
Further, the post claimed that Trump Junior was gearing up to vie for the US presidency in place of his father.
The statement sent the users on the app to a frenzy, with uncertainties surrounding the post.
However, a subsequent post by Eric Trump, Trump’s other son alluded to what many users speculated that Junior’s account was hacked.
“I don’t want Donald Trump Junior to get his account back, this is all so entertaining,” Eric Trump posted.Â
In a subsequent post, Eric Trump stated: “What was Donald Trump Junior’s password? Don2024?”
The posts were, however, deleted from the account minutes later.
By 1630hrs, East African time, neither the son or Donald Trump himself had shared a statement refuting or confirming the hacking news.

The statements came on the back of controversies marring Dondald Trump’s quest to become the President of the US for a second time.Â
In August, the former President turned himself in, in Atlanta, Georgia and took a mugshot that went viral, and a moment deemed to make a significant impact in the upcoming presidential elections.

X Guidelines on account security
In an era where hacking of accounts belonging to prominent figures is not new, a number of users expressed concerns over security measures adopted by X.
Since taking over control of the company, formerly known as Twitter, Elon Musk has scrapped the former legacy verification system, a move that has allowed the rise of pseudo accounts.
According to X‘s recommendations, X users should adopt a strong and unique password that is not used on other websites.

Further, the company advises users to use the two-step authentication system and only key in log in details after ensuring that you are on twitter.com.
Other guidelines include refraining from giving your username and password out to third parties, and ensuring that your computer software, including your browser, is up to date with the most recent upgrades and anti-virus software.
