The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has forecast rainfall in Nairobi and 29 other counties over the next 24 hours, with several areas expected to experience showers and thunderstorms as the El Niño season approaches.
In its daily weather forecast issued on November 7, 2026, the service noted that parts of Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana face strong winds exceeding 25 knots, equivalent to 12.5 meters per second.
“Strong southerly to southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana Counties,” part of the forecast read.
Nairobi is forecast to record temperatures between 16°C and 25°C, with partly cloudy conditions at night, followed by cloudy skies and sunny intervals in the morning.
In addition to Nairobi, the weatherman listed Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, Tana River, Taita-Taveta, Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Embu, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Kisii and Nyamira as counties set to experience rain amid El Nino concerns.
Showers and thunderstorms as El Niño Season Approaches
In the northeastern region, Wajir is expected to reach a high of 35°C and a low of 24°C; Mandera (25°C–35°C) and Garissa (25°C–36°C) are forecast to receive light rain and thunderstorms in a few places, mainly in the morning and afternoon.
Garissa may also experience light showers tonight.
Tana River (24°C–33°C) is likely to receive light showers and thunderstorms, with showers continuing in a few places in the morning before sunny intervals set in.
Marsabit (18°C–25°C) will see moderate rain and thunderstorms in the morning, easing to light to moderate showers in a few areas in the afternoon.
In Isiolo (18°C–29°C), light rain is expected over a few places in the morning, followed by sunny intervals and possible showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Sunny Intervals Ahead Of El Niño Showers
Mombasa is expected to record temperatures between 24°C and 31°C, with partly cloudy conditions tonight, followed by sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon.
Kwale is set to see a high of 30°C and a low of 24°C, with partly cloudy conditions tonight and sunny intervals during the day.
Temperatures in Kilifi will range between 24°C and 30°C, while Lamu is expected to reach 32°C and drop to 25°C.
Sunny intervals are forecast in the morning, while showers and thunderstorms are likely over a few places in the afternoon.
Taita-Taveta has a chance of light showers over a few places tonight and showers over a few places in the morning, followed by sunny intervals in the afternoon.
