Emirates Airline has now introduced a split-payment booking option for customers in Kenya.
The split-payment option will allow Kenyan customers to combine multiple payment methods, including mobile money, mobile banking, and local credit or debit cards.
Customers can make an initial payment online and pay the remaining balance in up to 4 additional instalments within 24 hours.
According to the airline, the changes will offer greater flexibility, particularly for mobile-first customers who rely on local payment systems.
Emirates Introduces 4-Part Instalment Payment Option for Kenyan Customers
Emirates’ new feature, launched in partnership with Tingg, Cellulant’s payment gateway, is now live on the airline’s website.
By using Tingg, customers can complete airline ticket bookings without exceeding provider-imposed limits.
Christophe Leloup, Emirates’ Country Manager for Kenya, said the airline continues to focus on improving the customer booking experience in the market.
He added that the introduction of split payments supports wider access to Emirates services by aligning with local payment preferences.
“Kenya is one of the most dynamic markets on our global network, and we’re always looking for ways to enhance our customer experience across every touchpoint, including the booking process. By introducing split payments, through Tingg by Cellulant, we unlock greater flexibility and convenience, while enabling more customers to access our world-class product and services,” he said.

On the other hand, Michael Muriuki, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Cellulant, stated that the solution tackles a major challenge in travel payments across Africa, where mobile money remains a popular method for booking flights.
“With hundreds of millions of Africans relying on mobile money as their preferred way to pay, extending this convenience to global travel payments is essential,” Michael Muriuki said.

Use of Mobile Money on Flight Booking
The airline stated that mobile money has remained the primary payment method, with millions of registered wallets and frequent annual transactions.
However, limits on single or daily payments can prevent customers from completing international flight bookings.
In Kenya, Emirates supports payments via mobile money platforms such as M-Pesa and Safaricom, as well as mobile banking transfers through partner banks, all facilitated by Cellulant.
The launch of the split-payment option coincides with Emirates’ plan to expand the Dubai–Nairobi route.
Starting 1 March 2026, the airline will add a third daily flight to accommodate growing demand between Kenya and its global network.
