Construction is officially underway on a major expansion project at Mwai Kibaki Hospital in Nyeri County, a development set to strengthen the facility’s regional referral capacity and enhance access to quality healthcare.
The aerial view captures a construction site spanning approximately 1,200 square metres, with structural frameworks, timber formwork and reinforcement works taking shape as crews advance the development.
The multi-level facility is designed to maximise efficiency, accessibility and patient flow, comprising three main floors and a dedicated basement level. The completed structure will feature an integrated lift shaft serving all levels, a central staircase and two emergency fire-escape stairwells to facilitate safe and seamless movement for patients, medical staff and visitors.
Construction has already achieved key structural milestones, with the basement and ground-floor levels completed. Crews are currently undertaking formwork preparations for the first-floor concrete slab, signalling continued progress on the facility’s transformation into a modern, expanded healthcare centre.
The development represents a significant investment in Nyeri’s healthcare infrastructure, positioning Mwai Kibaki Hospital to serve more patients and provide enhanced medical services to the region.
