Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three suspects among them a former Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officer in connection with a series of tuktuk thefts.
The three suspects Peter Kamau Muniu, a former Kenya Navy officer, Anthony Maina Njoroge and Timothy Irungu Karimi were arrested in the wake of rising cases of motorcycle theft recorded in Ruai Kamulu areas.
“Peter Kamau Muniu, Timothy Irungu Karimi and Antony Maina Njoroge have been arrested in the wake of escalating cases of motorcycle theft in Ruai and Kamulu areas,” DCI said in a statement.
The detectives said the arrest was successful with the help of Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) from the DCI Headquarters and DCI in Ruai.
DCI Arrests Ex-KDF Soldier Among Other Suspects
The suspects, believed to be the masterminds behind these illegal activities, were apprehended following a report of a stolen tuk-tuk.

“The three who are believed to be the architects of the illegal dealings were pursued and arrested following a tuktuk theft report by the devastated owner, who parked it on Tuesday night after work but found it missing the next day,” the detectives said.
Following the investigations, the DCI recovered the stolen tuktuk, registration number KTWB 975T, at the homestead of the former navy officer.
“Taking up the matter, the officers conducted an intelligence-led operation in Kamulu, recovering the said tuktuk reg. no. KTWB 975T within the homestead of Peter Kamau Muniu (a former Kenya Navy officer) with the other two suspects in the process of dismantling it,” DCI said.

Likewise, DCI recovered vehicles allegedly used in distributing the dismantled parts of stolen motorcycles.
“Also found at the scene were a motorcycle made by Jin Cheng reg. no. KMDN 972B (maroon) and a Nissan Wing Road reg. no. KCD 143Y (silver).”
Both were seized and are now detained at Ruai Police Station. However, the officers noted that two other known suspects sneaked away during the raid are being pursued.
