Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has published new toll fees to be paid by motorists using the Nairobi Expressway.
According to the notice, motorists moving from Mlolongo to Westlands will now pay Ksh500 instead of the previous Ksh360 cost.
“In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 4B(3) of the Public Roads Tolls Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport approves the toll rates for the Nairobi Expressway as set out in the Schedule hereto,” the notice read in part.

Details Of Expressway New Prices
Moja Expressway, the company managing the expressway confirmed that the charges would take effect beginning January 1, 2024.
“From Mlolongo to Westlands, one will have to pay Ksh500 for Manual Toll Collection (MTC). However, for those using the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) will pay Ksh490,” noted Moja Expressway.
The revised rates, according to the announcement, are based on the current exchange rate and adjustments in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
According to the notice, the highest amount to be paid as toll fee will be Ksh500, up from the previous Ksh360, representing a 38% increase.
Motorists exiting at the Southern Bypass from Mlolongo, for example, will pay Ksh330 up from the current Ksh210 while vehicles exiting at Capital Center and Haile Selassie stations will pay Ksh410 up from Ksh210.

Additionally, road users exiting at the Museum Hill, The Mall and Nairobi Westland’s terminus from Mlolongo will have to part with Ksh500 up from Ksh310.
Shorter routes from Syokimau to the SGR station, as well as those from the SGR and JKIA stations to the Eastern Bypass, will cost motorists Ksh.170, an increase from Ksh.100.
Types Of Vehicles Affected
The lowest amount a motorist will pay is Ksh170, as opposed to the initial Ksh120 cost.
As per the notice, the new rates will be applicable to saloon cars.
However, light vehicles with two axles and a high bonnet would have to pay 1.5 times the new rate, according to the new rates.
At the same time, heavy vehicles with fewer than four axles will pay four times the new rates, while those with four or more axles would pay five times the amount.
